About
A station for the Girmitiya family.
Girmit Radio plays the music and talk of the Indo-Fijian community, for listeners in Fiji and for everyone who has carried Fiji with them somewhere else.
What we play
Bhajans and kirtan at the start and end of the day. Film songs from the golden era and from this week’s charts. Folk music that came over on the ships: bidesia, kajri, chutney and qawwali. And between the songs, conversation in Fiji Hindi about the news and the community.
Why it matters
A language stays alive where it is spoken out loud. For many families abroad, the radio is the one place Fiji Hindi is heard every day. We want grandparents to hear the songs they grew up with, and grandchildren to hear the language they were born into.
How to listen
Press Listen live on any page. The station plays in your browser, on a phone, tablet or computer, with nothing to install. The player stays at the bottom of the screen while you read, and carries on when you move to another page.

Common questions
Do I need an app?
No. The station plays on this website in any modern browser. On a phone you can lock the screen and it keeps playing, with pause and play on the lock screen.
Can I listen from outside Fiji?
Yes. The stream is the same everywhere. Programme times are shown in station time, so check the schedule against your own clock.
How much mobile data does it use?
Roughly 30 to 60 MB for each hour of listening, depending on stream quality. On Wi-Fi it does not count against your mobile plan.
The player says it cannot reach the stream. What now?
Check your internet connection, then press play again. If other websites work and the station still will not play, the stream may be down for a short while; try again in a few minutes.
How do I request a song?
Use the form on the contact page. Tell us the song, who it is for and where you are listening from.
